Show K.VwXv , .. . t r Sports Here and There By Al Ablctt Annual Letter To Santa Claus Dear Santa: We take this opportunity to thank you for your gifts of last year. The Gemmell baseball team will be satisfied if you just see that they get a trophy for this year and put one away for the coming season. Coach A- J. Boberg of the club basketball team said if you have a six footer foot-er that can score just drop him in the locker room at the club. Coach Bailey J. Senlistevan of the high school baseball and football learns told me to ask you for another state championship champ-ionship cup in baseball. And he would welcome about six 200 pound football players. Coach Warren G. Allsop of the basketball team said, Santa, to please send him a couple of boys that can score. Now, Santa, we realize that you will probably get these same requests from every ev-ery town in the country, so if you run out of material, all we ask is that you just let us keep what we already have. Yours truly, Bingham Fans-Joe Fans-Joe Louis sure showed that he had been idle in his fight with McCoy. He was missing badly and his punches seemed to lack their usual snap. He plans to fight once a month for the rest of the winter. Mike Jacobs has asked Billy Conn not to fight again until he meets Louis next June. I don't think this is very smart on Conn's part, because the champion with his fights a month away will be as sharp as a razor by June and Billy's only hope is to outpoint him, so a couple of tough fights is just what the Pittsburgh boy needs to keep his timing and footwork on edge. Lew Jenkins, lightweight champion, and Fritz Zivic, welterweight welt-erweight champion, fight ten rounds or less in Madison Square Garden Friday night. I think Zivic will win easy. He is just the type of fighter that Lew can't handle, one of those fellows who is on top of his man every minute. min-ute. Lew likes to stand off and punch. Armstrong beat Jenkins bad in close and I think Zivic will do the same. Lou Nova is staging a big publicity pub-licity campaign trying to get back in the heavyweight picture-Nova picture-Nova proved he is a good boy when he is physically fit, so there may be some fireworks among the heavyweights yet. Tonight the Gemmell basketball basket-ball team plays the Mint cafe on the club floor. This should be a real ball game. The Mint team is composed of former college stars that have been beating everything around Salt Lake. The club team has been working out all week with but one thought in mind: to take Mint cafe. There should be a big crowd on hand to see this game, as both teams are loaded load-ed for bear. I like Gemmell-AL. |
