Show On The Christmas Scene In Bingham Holiday merriment, glowing Christmas trees, preparations for seasonal entertainment and arrival ar-rival of Santa Claus were all part of the scene of Christmas week in Bingham Canyon. With mines producing at records' peaks, this district saw residents enter the yuletide season with sober thoughts and anxious hearts in many instances lightly masked with conventional pleasantries. Highly successful was Copper-ton's Copper-ton's open air community Christmas Christ-mas carol sing at the Utah Copper Cop-per company park early Monday evening- Mrs. B. D. Bennion directed di-rected singing. 488 stockings filled fill-ed with candy, nuts and oranges were prepared by the Parent-Teacher Parent-Teacher association committee working under direction of Mrs. j Al Kastelic, P.-T.A. president.! The stockings remaining after Santa Claus treated all children present were givent to those youngsters unable to attend because be-cause of illness or other reasons. The large, beautifully decorated tree was lighted with 30-watt globes in red, green, blue and ivory. Executive officers of the P.-T.A. wish to thank the Utah Copper company for assistance in preparation of the tree. A large crowd was In attendance attend-ance at the Christmas party sponsored by the Independent Association of Mine Workers for children of Bingham district Saturday Sat-urday evening above the City hall. Santa Claus. escorted into town by Chief of Police S. P. Davies, greeted the youngsters and passed out bags of candy and peanuts. Like other schools in the Bingham Bing-ham section of Jordan district, Highland Boy grade school was nicely-decorated for the Christ- iiias seasun. nie umunno operetta, op-eretta, "What The Christmas Fire Told", and the sacred cantata, "Flowers For the King", last Friday evening drew an audience of 250 persons. Santa Claus was honor guest at the social following follow-ing and gave candy and nuts to all youngsters. Several times daily during the week preceding Christmas chimes chim-es and carols have been broadcast broad-cast from the loudspeaker system at the top of the Bingham Canyon Can-yon hospital and clinic. Each window of the front rooms has a large wreath of holly, prime evidence of the Christmas spirit. The beautiful large drawing of the nativity at Bingham high school, the first thing to be seen on entering the building, was also al-so the work of Mr. Kuhni. Three hundred bags of candy were given to youngsters attending attend-ing a program and dance at Copperfield Cop-perfield school Monday at a Christmas party sponsored by the Parent-Teacher association. Santa Claus was present to greet the children and many parents joined join-ed in the fun. Several hundred children participated par-ticipated in the Christmas Eve party given by the R. C. Gemmell Gem-mell Memorial club at the clubhouse club-house Tuesday afternoon. Special .entertainment features, including includ-ing 50 minutes of motion picture cartoons, were enjoyed " by the youngsters. Carl E. Wilson, house committee chairman of the club, was in charge of the parry. Santa Claus gave each child a large stocking full of nuts and candy. |
