Show -WEAK FIH EMBARGO Of! Gill CITIC A GO, Sept. 17. As a res nit of the general embargo on grrain shipments to western primary centers unless storage stor-age room was arranged for, the corn market today showed weakness the ffreater part of the session. Prices closed nervous 5-8c to l-4c down, with October Octo-ber 1T! 1-4 to 152 1-2 and November 14g ij-S to U 3-4. Oats, on trie contrary, gained 1-8c to l-2(&5-Se net and provisions advanced 5c to 70c. Announcement that the railway gram embargo had been made all-embracing brought about a sharp break in corn values proniptlv after the opening. At the same time, the. fact lhat the no frost was shown on the weather map, and that the forecast was for more warmth and sunshine tended to increase bearish sentiment, sen-timent, especially as the government had predicted lhat the bulk of the crop would be safe from frost by September 20. Covering bv shorts led to a good rally, but weakness soon developed again in view of the fact that storage room in Chicago remains ainole, and the outlook was that arrivals here might be heavily enlarged. Strength in oats came for the most part from buying credited to the government govern-ment and to the northwest. Improved cash inquiry made provisions advance. The downward tendency or corn had onlv a transitory bearish effect. JIA.NtiE Or III 15 l.J-.Ain.-SU r u u ivl-o. , Open. ' Hiffli. I'Off. Close.
