Show BELGIANS IN NEED OF OJKLOING Salt Lake Residents Urged to Turn in All Castoff Garments. Old clothing of every description is wanted by the Red Cross for shipment to needy Belgians, and Salt Lake residents resi-dents are urged to gather together all articles of wear and be prepared to deliver de-liver them at a designated place the week of September 23-30, which is "Old Clothes week." The campaign for old clothes for the Belgians is to be nation-wide and handled han-dled by the American Red Cross at the request of the commission for relief in Belgium. Five thousand tons or clothing are required for this relief work. The goods must be in the hands of the distributing dis-tributing commission in the stricken country before winter sets in. To look after the drive in Salt Lake, James E. Jennings, president of the Jen-nings-Hanna Wholesale company, has been named by the executive board of the local Red Cross chapter. The public is advised not to mend old clothing to be donated, as there are many idle hands in Belgium. The only requirement in this campaign is that the goods contributed must be clean. Clothing of every description de-scription for men, women, boys, girls, infants in-fants and of miscellaneous sorts will be needed. Flimsy material or gaudy colored col-ored stuff, ball dresses, high-heeled slippers, slip-pers, stiff hats, either men's or women's straw, dress or derby, will be rejected, as will also any articles containing rubber, or raincoats, books, toys, soap and toilet articles. Collection points, to be named later, will be selected by the relief committee. |
