There is every probability that within j tho next few weeks Salt Luke will he cainblished as the intermountain connecting connect-ing link on the Woodrow Wilson aerial highway across the continent from New York to San Fnuiclsco. Machinery to bring this about has been set in motion by the Pacific Aero club of San Francisco, Fran-cisco, the representative and secretary of which, Frederick Porter. Is now in the city in an effort to select a site for a landing place. Mr. Porter said last night that he was delighted tu know that two Ideal sites are available at Fort Douglas. He will inspect in-spect them tomorrow, as well as others, und nckc his recommendations without delay. While the official map of the route between be-tween New York and San Francisco shows a line passing directly through Provo, Mr. Porter expressed a preference for Ealt Lake, declaring that if the route is to pass through Utah, and in all reason rea-son it must, the only proper and logical point is Salt Lake. Mr. Porter is chairman chair-man of the aeronautical map and landing places committee of the Pacific Aero club of San Francisco and official representative repre-sentative of the Aero Club of America, and It Is believed that his recommendation recommenda-tion will go a great way In securing for Salt Lake the distinction of being selected se-lected by government officials as the Intermountain In-termountain connecting link. The government aerial mall service already al-ready has been extended so that it includes in-cludes Washington, Philadelphia, New-York New-York and Chicago, and as far east as Boston. In fact, it is generally recognized that when the time comes for the delivery of the largest type of airplanes to France the trip across the Atlantic will be the most practical method of delivery. I am convinced that the first flights will be made in the near future." Mr. Porter has nothing but the highest praise for the work being accomplished by the national aviation board, and he says that airplane production in the east is booming. About the only mistake the aviation authorities have made in the past, he says, has been in letting reports go out that they would accomplish results re-sults no practical man ever has dreamed of being possible. |
