Wauls of Ogden were nominated for congress from tiie Second and First districts, respectiv el , at the hands of the Republican congressional convention held in the Salt Lake theater yesterday. Both men were nominated by acclamation. The Republican stale convention named J. E. Frick of S.ilt Lake, present chief justice of the supreme court, for the six-year six-year term on the supreme bench; A. E. Bowen of I.ogan for tho eight-year term and James W. Cherry of Mt. Pleasant for the ten-year term. PATRIOTISM MADE ISSUE OF PARTY. The state convention adorted a platform plat-form denouncing alleged efforts of the Democratic party to "put partisanship above patriotism" and making patriotism and loyalty party issues ; opposing federalization fed-eralization of industries save as a necessary neces-sary military measure; declaring for national na-tional woman suffrage, for a state lawgiving law-giving women an eight-hour working day, condemning the present governor of Utah for trying to draw the schools Into polit ics, and calling upon the -present state administration for an accounting of the $25,000 appropriation asked of the leg- ; islature, which was to have been used to return to the treasury $100 of alleged Republican waste for every dollar of the appropriation. i Appearance of Mr. Spry before the convention con-vention in I he afternoon was the signal for a storm of applause, to which the governor replied with a speech of acceptance accept-ance of the nomination. j NAME CANDIDATES FOR SUPREME BENCH. Armstrong, Salt Dake. and James "W. Cherry. Mt. Pleasant, Pleas-ant, were suhmitted. The ballot gave the nomination to Cherry by a larjre margin. The . First congressional district then opened Us convention, with Kobert Wynne of Juab as chairman.
