Details are published in the Official Gazette of acts for which naval officers and men were awarded the Victoria Vic-toria Cross during the war and which could not be given out earlier lor obvious reasons. Tho Victoria Cross was awarded To Lieutenant William Kdward Sanders, June 22, 1117. In command of the topsail schooner Prize, of 2 'JO tons, the lieutenant sighted a German submarine April 30, 11117. While tho German approached, a "panic parry" left the ship and the gun crews on the Prize- concealed themselves. When the submarine had approached to within seventy yards of the schooner, tho British Brit-ish guns opened fire. The U-boat sank In four minutes, and three of tho crew-were crew-were captured. Lieutenant Ronald Neil &Huart and Sea- i man William Williams of H. M. S. Par-gust Par-gust were given the Victoria Cross for bravery in sinking an enemy submarine in an action similar to that in which Lieutenant Sanders of the Prize participated. partici-pated.
