Show LOS IGELES-KE RACE SE1PUT OVER Influenza Afflicts Numerous Numer-ous Entrants; No Definite Defi-nite Date for Event. Influenza has again interfered with athletic ath-letic competition, and tho proposed Los Angeles-to-Venlce marathon which has been on the tapis for some time has again been postponed. Scores of runners in California, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Ore-gon, Nevada and' other sections of the west had already entered for the sixteen-mile sixteen-mile grind, but on account of the "flu" and the fact that a number of the stars entered have contracted the disease the event has been postponed indefinitely. The race was originally planned for Thanksgiving Thanks-giving day, b'K the "flu" caused its postponement. post-ponement. It was then set to be held on New Year's day, and has again been postponed. The coast officials have as yet not decided de-cided Just when the race will be run, but It is thought that It will be called off until the "flu" has vanished, so that the men who wish to enter will not waste any time in training. Ted Johnson, the veteran Utah distance dis-tance runner and western title holder, was the only man from this state entered, en-tered, but now that the event has been postponed it is highly probable that Al Warden and Mel Freebairn will enter also, providing the event la held at a time to enable the Utah stars to get into first-class shape. Johnson ha.s been training for the race for some time, and was in first-class shape when postponement postpone-ment was ordered. |
