William Mathes. negro, charged with grand larceny, was held for trial In the district court following follow-ing a preliminary hearing this morning before Judge George S. Barker in the municipal court. Mathes is charged with the theft of a gold watch and other articles arti-cles from Charles H. Barton, cashier of the Ogden Savings bank. Ernest Dillard, also colored, recently i sentenced to the state prison for gra nd i larceny, was the principal witness for the i state. Mathes told the offiners Dillard ; gave him the Barton watch. On the witness wit-ness stand today Dillard not only denied that he gave Mathes the watch, but implicated im-plicated the defendant in the recent robbery rob-bery of the Job Pingree home on "Wall avenue. |
