Show BIG IMPROVEMENT PLAN OFTHE 0, S, L Pocatello and Southern Ida- ho Will Receive Large Share of Benefits. POCATELLO, "Idaho, Jan. 2C Of the $4,000,000 which the tfhort Lino is to expend on development and extension work during the entiling year, Poc.atel-lc Poc.atel-lc and southern Idaho are to receive a gonerous share. The local shops will be increased in size, about fifty feet to be added to zhe engine stalls. The equipment will be brought up to a standard where it will be possible for the Pocatello shops to complete an engine in a month's time. A subway will be built from the power pow-er house to Bridgnr street in the interests inter-ests of the safety of the employees, and auother subway will b3 constructed ;it the stock yards crossing, through the cooperation co-operation of the county commissioners and the Short Line, for the protection of the public. From Pocatello to Hunting Hunt-ing ton, a distance of ;V7 miles, a telephone tele-phone dispatching cirouit will be installed. in-stalled. Embankments will be widened and tho road from Idaho Falls to Dubois will be reballasted to relievo the annoyance frcm dust. A large item of experts-: will be that for laying 135 miles of new trackage at a cort of more than $1,000,000. One of the leading reasons for the increased trackage and extension work is that the Short Line plans direct connection with the coal fields of Utah, according to a statement, recently made by H. V. Piatt, general manager of the O. S. L. This will solve Idaho's coal problem for future fu-ture years. |
