Show ANOTHER SPURIOUS $5 COIN SENT IN Another spurious five-dollar gold piece, believed to have been the work of York and Karr, two former Oakland policemen, was turned in to T. J. Callaghan of the United States secret service yesterday by the National Bank of tlie Republic. This is the second coin of the kind received re-ceived by Mr. Callaghan, and both were detected by John Fife, a teller at the National Bank of the Republic. The coins made by York and Karr are said by the United States treasury department to be the most dangerous of all spurious money ever detected by the government, on account ac-count of the nearly perfect workmanship, about the only deficiency being that they are a little under weight. |
