Show HEWS FROM ABROAD PUSHES WHEAT flflWi Defeat of the Bulgarians in Macedonia Is Cause of the Drop. CHICAGO, Sept. 12. Assertions that a heavy defeat had been suffered by the Bulgarians in Macedonia acted as a weight on the wheat market mar-ket here today. The outcome was an unsettled close, 2c to 3s'-' net lower, with December at $1.51 and May at $1.51 6-s to $l.rl. Other leading commodities com-modities shared in the decline corn lc to 1 c. oata c to lc and provisions 2,&c to 25 c. Bears had control of the wheat market throughout the session and were able to prevent any important rallies. In the last hour especially many holdings were sacrificed on automatic stop-loss orders to seil. The failure of the Liverpool market mar-ket to respond to yesterday's advance here gave an unexpected advantage to the bears at the start, but selling did not assume unusual proportions until after dispatches were at hand telling of huge losses by the Bulgarians in a battle lasting last-ing thirty-six hours. The obvious inference infer-ence was that the victory for the Anglo-French Anglo-French allies meant improved chances of the opening of the Dardanelles and, perhaps, per-haps, Implied the speedier establishment of a rail route for Rumanian and Russian Rus-sian supplies to reach the Mediterranean. Slackening of milling and export demand de-mand for wheat tended further to discourage dis-courage the bulls. The falling- off in the call from domestic millers was particularly particu-larly noticeable on account of the fact that the difficulties resulting in Great Britain from the English milling operatives' opera-tives' strike seemed to be growing more acute. Corn values eased down, owing largely to continued favorable weather for the ripening of the crop. Field reports, especially espe-cially from Nebraska, were for the most part optimistic. Oats fell with corn and -wheat. Sales of 500.000 bushels to exporters failed to prove much of an offset. Free selling, in which packers took a conspicuous part, turned the provision market downgrade. The weakness in grains formed a decided handicap for the bulls. RANGE OF THC LEADING FUTURES. Open. High. Low. Close. December It.
