Show BIG LEAGUE RACES THRILLING CHICAGO, Sept, 4. The pennant races in the National and American leagues grew tighter today as a result of the double-headers double-headers which were on the Labor day programme. In the older league Brooklyn was dethroned from the lead by losing two games to Philadelphia, while Boston went, in front when they split even with New York. Philadelphia, as a result of their double victory, moved up to a tie with the Dodgers for second place. New York remained in fourth place. In the American league the clubs did not change their positions, posi-tions, but Detroit, by a double win over Cleveland, advanced to within ten points of Boston. The Red Sox lost a few points when they broke even with the New York Yankees, who tied Fielder Jones's men for fourth place, because St. Louis lost both ends of the double bill to Chicago. The White Sox, as a result, strengthened their hold on third place and are only twenty-one points behind Boston. |
