Show MAY CHANGE TACTICS. The National Woman Suffrage association associ-ation is to meet this week to decide w bother the association shall continue the fight (or an amendment to the constitution con-stitution of the I' 11 i ted Lutes or resume re-sume the campaign tor equal rights in the Mates where ihe men do all the voting. Hoth the Republican and democratic demo-cratic platforms declare the question ot suffrage is a matter for the states to deeide for themselves, and, although Mr. Hughes has taken a step in advance of his party's declaration, it is not an issue in the present campaign. Doubtless thousands of women in the stiff rage states will vote for Mr. Hughes on account ac-count of the bold stand he has taken, but there is some chance of its having a boomerang effect in the east. Senator Sena-tor Borah recently said in a speech upon the floor of the senate that the position taken by Mr. Hughes would not help the Republican party a particle. We think otherwise so far as the states w here the women have votes a re concerned. con-cerned. The suffrage leaders, however, arc not considering that question. What they are trying to decide is whether or not the ultimate success of the cause will be brought any nearer by fighting for the amendment, 'jfliey will make up their minds within a day or two and act accordingly. |
