Show TWO (MENTIS TO BE HELD TODAY Democrats and Progressives of Salt Lake County to Nominate Tickets. WILL PROBABLY FUSE Many Candidates Are in the Field for the Various Vari-ous Offices. ,.. . Democrats and Progressives of Salt Iake county will meet in separate conventions con-ventions In Salt Lake today for the purpose pur-pose of nominating fusion candidates for the various county offices and for the Btate legislature. Whether or not there Is a fusion ticket the two parties will hold their county conventions and put tickets in the field. The Democratic convention will meet In the Auditorium at 10:30 o'clock. The Progressives will meet at the same time at the Knights of Pythias hall over the I.-t road way theater. The But! At 10 o'clock this morning the Democrats Demo-crats of the Second municipal ward will caucus at the Auditorium. Other delegations dele-gations proba bly will hold caucuses he-fore he-fore the convention, but the times a nd meeting places have not been announced. H. L. Mul liner has been selected as temporary chairman and Henry D. Moyle as temporary secretary of the Democratic Demo-cratic county and legislative conventions. Allen T. For assistant secretary the Progressives Pro-gressives have chosen IC. G. Thomas. The Rev. John Malick has been selected as chaplain. Eight Want Nomination. Unless contests develop over the fusion proposition, both conventions should go along smoothly. In only one instance on the county ticket is there likely to be an extensive scramble. For the nomination for county commissioner there are eight candidates. Tifayette Hanchett, if lie permits his name to go before t lie convention, Is the favorite for long-term commissioner, according ac-cording to the dopesters. B. B. Qulnn, John Holley, G. G. Smith, W. B. "Hughes of Salt Lake City, J. Lindsay of Taylors-ville. Taylors-ville. N. P. Peterson of Granger and James F. W! I kins of Bingham all have announced their candidacy for nomination for county commissioner. It is possihle that in order to meet the ticket of the Republicans the Democrats may deem it necessary to select one candidate from the county outside of tne city. Xo opposition has been announced to John P. Corless for sheriff", Thomas Homer for rlerk, R. E. L. Collier for surveyor, A. H. Parsons for assessor. R. C. Nay-Inr Nay-Inr for treasurer or John F. Tobln for cltv judge. For recorder, G. H. Ldaub. Pcrlev A. Hill and J. H. Haslam have announced themselves as candidates. Herbert Van Dam, Jr., and Richard Hartley Hart-ley are the only visible candidates for the nomination for county attorney. H. S. Schofteld calls attention lo an error in the announcement of his candidacy candi-dacy published yesterday. The announcement an-nouncement read that he would be a candidate can-didate for nomination on the Democratic ticket for recorder, when it should have been for the office of auditor. He is opposed op-posed to Moroni C. lverson. C. A. Stain Withdraws. Charles A. Stain announced yesterday that he had withdrawn from the race for county treasurer on the Democratic ticket. tick-et. For the upper house the names of Joseph L. Rawlins, Mrs. Mattle Hughes Cannon and C. L. Olson have been mentioned. There is a possibility that if the Progressives Pro-gressives todav decide to ratify the action ac-tion of the Salt Lake county Progressive committee In accepting t he divinlon of the county offices proposed by the Democrats Dem-ocrats In connection with the fusion ticket tick-et the Democrats will concede to the Bull Moose rs one state senator in addition addi-tion to three members of the lower house. |
