The petitioners represented rep-resented that the gas lights are not as satisfactory as the electric. Consideration of the petition Tvag deferred de-ferred by the eomnitfision; pending action ac-tion on the bids of the Ltah Power & Light company and the Utah Gafi & i Joke com pany on the street lighting contracts tor the coming three years. From the electric company an answer is due this morning as to its willing- ness to allow award of contract for ! 250 lights to the gas company. In-j quiry on this point was made by the citv commission when the bids were opened but a few days ago. The inquiry was made necessary by the fact that certain cer-tain concessions of" free light current to the city arc based, it is said, upon stipulation stip-ulation in the electric company's franchise fran-chise that it should have the entire contract con-tract for the lighting of the city's streets. j The gas company entered a low bid upon the furnishing of 250 lights, fail-l ing to bid upon the entire lighting con- tract because of the limited extent o-l i its gas mains.
