Show DEMOCRATS DISCUSS W APPLICAT1S Secrecy to Prevail Until After Meeting to Be Held Friday Night. With the aid of reinforcements in the way of indorsements from district and precinct chairmen, the Democratic county committee made a brilliant attack at-tack last night on the stronghold of applications. The action was con(iiu-t-ed in the vicinity of the quarters of General B. W. Mendeuhall, on Richards street. Some inroads were made hy the attacking at-tacking party, according .to reports, and there were numerous casualties in the ranks of the enemy, but all names, as well hs details in connection with the action, were "deleted bv the censor." After an engagement of more than three hours' duration the storming party intrenched itself and agreed to a truce until Friday night. Wheu the eouutv committee convened con-vened it was set t'orth by Chairman Mendenhall that only one applicant for any appointive office would be indorsed and the weeding out process be;au. It progressed fairly well, according to official of-ficial reports, and approximately a doz-ui doz-ui applicants for posts in tiie state administration wore indorsed. Not all the state appointments were considered at the meeting, no deputyships whatever what-ever aud no county appointments. These are to be taken up at Friday night's meeting, but it is probable that two or three additional meetings will be required re-quired to sift out the faithful. About the most heated argument of the meeting arose over the question of making public through the press the action of the committee at last night's meeting. The proposition finally was voted down and then, to nail it hard and fast, a resolution was adopted to the effect that no information relative .to the proceedings should bo made public pub-lic except through the chairman or the secretary, and they were both sworu to secrecy. It is understood that when the sifting sift-ing for the state appointments finally is accomplished the entire list of indorsements in-dorsements will be made public through fhe officers of the county organization. |
