Show t PRESIDENT VOSBERC VISITSJIEECON. Ridge and Valley Has Un-watered Un-watered Lower Levels and Started Work. A. W. Vosberg. the president of the Yankee Consolidated Mining company, is in Tintic for the purpose of watching the development of the new ore body, which will undoubtedly make a new mine of I he Yankee This is the first visit of Mr. Vosberg to this district for over two years, his home being In Pennsylvania, says the Eureka Reporter. Superintendent Merrlman of the Yankee Yan-kee says that the work of connecting the raise and winze has been going rather slowly, but this connection will undoubtedly undoubt-edly be made today or tomorrow, and then no time will be lost in placing the first car of ore from the new strike on the market. The development of the new ore body fs being carried on by means of a drift, which leaves the winze at a depth of about forty feet. This drift Is completely in the ore, and soon after the connection between the winze and raise has been made, another drift will he driven, with a view to getting well under the big ore deposit. Regular shipments of this high-grade high-grade ore will no doubt be in order within with-in the next few weeks. Recent assays show that the Yankee ore Is much richer than the lead -silver product which its neighbor, the May Bay, has been putting on the market, and from which dividends are now being paid. The Yankee company has been working In an economical manner, notwithstanding notwithstand-ing the fact that a large amount of development work has been under way. The shipment of ore from this new discovery dis-covery will place money in the treasury rapidly. Officials of the Ridge & Valley mine arc pleased with the ore showing In the workings, which are located about seventy sev-enty feet below the 1600 level. Some years ago, when the Gemini pumping plant was ip operation and when these two mines were unwatered to a depth of about 1700 feet, the Ridge & Valley mined considerable ore from the workings which are between the 1600 and 1700 levels, and a drift was sent out on the ore for a distance of about 180 feet. When the Gemini stopped pumping water the Ridge & Valley work was suspended, and it was only a few months ago that it was again taken up, and within the past few weeks this same big ore body has been followed for fifty or sixty feet, showing that it is continuous for over 230 feet, with everything to indicate that It is making off strong into the northern portion por-tion of the company's ground. As the company has plenty of virgin ground in that direction, this ore body promises to be a most important one. Superintendent John, IL McChrystal states that car samples show this ore to carry about 49 per cent lead, sixteen ounces of silver a nd some copper and gold. The gold values, while somewhat irregular, are improving, and It seems that the Ridge &, Valley ore differs somewhat some-what from that found in the Gemini, In that there has been a substantial Increase In-crease in the gold values. Other work In the Ridge & Valley Is being done on the 1600 level, and preparations prepa-rations are being made to start another drift on the 1500 level. The 1500 drift will also be sent out into the northern end of the company's ground. |
