Show GREAT STATE FAIR Will CLOSE TODAY Crowning Event to Be Selection Se-lection of Utah's Most Beautiful Girl. As (ho crowning event of the 19Jo Utah state fal r, t he q ueen of the fair, or, nil hei , the prettiest girl entered in the "beauty contest," will be selected tonight "ii llic coliseum stage. The event will also mark the close of Utah's biggest and best exposition. Nearly half a hundred of the beauties, Cor which Utah Is famous, have appeared bofore the commit tee in charge of the contest, and tonight they will appear in the coliseum in order that the big audience audi-ence may pass Judgment upon the Judgment Judg-ment of the committee. The girls will assemble at 7:30 o'clock in I he art department, where they will be me I by the "beauty" committee. At 8:15, preceded by a band, they will proceed pro-ceed to the coliseum and take their places on the stage with the officials of the fair and the governor. Shortly afterward after-ward the judges will announce their derisions de-risions and the girls will be awarded the prizes by Governor Spry. Big Crowd Is Expected. Because it is the last day of the exposition, exposi-tion, today's programme will be larger than usual and every entertainer will he on his or her toes to make the final appearance ap-pearance the best of all. Special precautions pre-cautions will be taken for the safety and comfort of the big throng and no effort will bn spared to make the day tho biggest big-gest and best of Utah's biggest and beet fair. Morse races and the Wild West show on the race track will be' the big attractions In the afternoon and the "beauty contest" and the show in the coliseum will be the features at night. All exhibits will remain in place throughout the day, but early tomorrow morning the dismantling work will begin, a nd before the end of the week the grounds and the big halls will be as barren bar-ren and as vacant as they were three months ago. Some of the exhibitors plan to take their displays to other fairs, but the majority will return home and begin plans for a still bigger and better Utah state fair in 1916. Many Conference Visitors. Conference visitors took the fullest advantage ad-vantage of the holiday yesterday and thronged the grounds all day. The baseball base-ball game at Majestic field cut a big hole in the local attendance, but the stands at the race track were well filled for the races and the Wild West show. And they wore well repaid. The races were of a high order and (he fastest three miles ever driven by women in Utah was the feature of the day. . "Prairie Rose' Henderson of Cheyenne and Mrs. Roy Rogers of St. Anthony, Tdaho, drove a dead heat in the first race and the ensuing heats of the race were closely contested by Mrs. Rogers and Mrs. Theone Hampshire of Salt Ljake, Mrs. Rogers drove Gene Direct I Lai, "Prairie Rose," Henderson drove Jim Stewart and Mrs. Hampshire drove Silver SHvere. Trwin Brothers staged the same high-class high-class Wild West show of former days on the race track in the afternoon and in the coliseum last night. Prior to the show In the coliseum there was a grand pageant of Utah thoroughbred cattle, prize winners at the exposition. |
