Show MEXICAN MORMONS SAFELY BACK 1 0. S. Cross Border After Many Hardships From Delays Caused by Villa. Special to The Tribune. EL PASO, Tex.. Oct. 5. After being on the road many weeks from the Mexican Mex-ican Mormon colonies in western Chihuahua, Chihua-hua, the last remaining Americans reached the border today from Colonia !ublan and Colonia .Juarez. The train started out of the colonies when Villa first started occupying the rich and fertile district which the Mormons had reclaimed re-claimed from the desert. The members of the faith here had become much alarmed over the failure of the refugees to arrive, and their cases had been reported re-ported to Washington. The refugees, including some of the most prominent Mormon families in the southwest, reported that they had not been mistreated, but that tbey had been met with every delay possible in their efforts to leave the country. The food supplies with which they started had been completely exhausted when they reached here. The refugees say theyc.wbuld have been suffering if tbey had been on. the road another day. They were forced to rebuild parts of the railroad which had been destroyed and to remove wrecked locomotives from the track before they could continue their journey. |
