BATES TELLS OF CHILD UPLIFT WORK Head of "Better Babies" Ex plains Faults in Present System Dr Mar Elizabeth Bates of Denver has been placed In charge of the better babies contest at the State fair For many vears Dr Bates has been actl e in eugenic work In Colorado She has de voted much of 1 er time to the work of teaching parents the proper care of In fants. Her efforts have not, however been wholly confined to the care of cbil dren after birth. She has devoted muoh etudy to the ancestry and environment which have a prenatal effect on children Much of Colorado s legislation along the lines of general uplift has been the direct result of agitation by Dr Bates and it waa through her efforts that last year s baby contest at the Ltah State fair was a success. Children eligible to th s class will be admitted on tie daa set f they apply at the proper hours The time schedule for entries in the various classes Is as follows Boys between 12 and 18 months. 9 to 10 a m. Monday girls, between 1! and 18 months 10 to 11 a, ra. Monday boys, between 13 and 24 months 11 a. m. to 1' m. Monday girls between 18 and S4 months 1J m to 1' SO p. m.
