Traction company for a franchise to exte d its If es past the capltol grounds on Second rorth and thence north to a point Just east of the eas entrance to he cap tol Ow ng to ques ons of grade the matter was referred to- a specla com nlttee consisting of Commissioner Heber M W el s and R P Morris with the city engineer assoc a ted to look over the ground H L. Beach informed the commission that the street car compa y could not con eider a grade greater nan 6 per cent whereas the lt engineer has recommend ed hat the new s ee to be known as West Cans on street shou d be established on a grade of 7 pe cent An ordinance was passed by the com mission vacating East Capitol a enue and creating In Its place West Canyon street This was done in conformity with an agreement between the city and the state relative to the grading of the capltol grounds. David Mattaon a member of the capltol commission also asked the commission to onsider giving to the state the cits s par el of and at the southwest corner of State and Second North streets He mg gested that it wou d make an excellent Christmas present from the cltv t the state The state desired It ln order to be able to park the ground and prevent the erection of any building! that might mar the view to the capltol Commiss oner Wei s estimated the prop ertj n q estton to be worth about 40 000 Mr Mattson was o d to alk to t e next adm n stratlon w th rega d to the,g ft and none of the on n ss o era appeared to ha e any ssmpaths with his suggestion |
