Sylvia, hndmg herself trapped, vows to fight until she escapes- George Scarborough, who wrote "The Lure,'' says there are 25,000 Americau girls lured to destruction every- year. Ho ought, to know, lie was a former j-'overument special agent of the department de-partment of .justice, and achieved a splendid record in runnino down white slavers in a "had district." In "The Lure," admitted by all critics to be the greatest expose plav of the white slave traffic ever produced, which will be shown at the Libertv theater today, Tuesday and Wednesday, Mr. Scarborough Scar-borough accomplished what he set out to do reveal to the world the traps, snares and pitfalls that are strewn in tbe way of young girls in towns and cities everywhere. The play provides thrilling entertainment, entertain-ment, but it does more than that. It must or it never would have received the enthusiastic, indorsement it has from social reform workers, clergymen and educators throughout the nation. It met with their instant approval, because be-cause it carries a great message and in a way is a powerful "illustrated lec- hire" that should have been delivered long apo. The play is based on incidents inci-dents that actually occurred during tbe active career of the nut hoi' as a government gov-ernment detective. Xts plot is one ot! which there are manv such, presenting an exact parallel i n many American cities today. Ft concerns two young girls. One gets into the hands of wbite slavers bv bein fascinated by a clever young fellow whom she meets at dancing danc-ing school. The other is lured to a place which she believes to be au employment em-ployment agency, but which, in reality, is a questionable resort. "The Lure'-' shows convincingly that it is not a difficult thing, always, for detectives to track down the white slavers and their accomplices, as is done so thoroughly after a heartbreaking fight iu this story. Special music will be provided for the several acts of i(The Lure" by the Liberty theater's new concert orchestra, which will be conducted by Professor 'Marquardt, a noted violin soloist and concert master, who has just arrived here from the east. |
