Show Think Spies Are at Work. General von Kluk ' army tn St. Ouentin is hearing the brunt of an attack at-tack hv a French and British army which has been in action continuously! for three davs. German reinforcements I hurried forward from Belgium have fought everv foot of the advance of the allies with the utmost, desperation. It is believed that, the raid on St. Quen. tin was planned as a surprise attack, hut that the Germans were forewarned in time to place a huge defending force to the north of the city. So freciuently has it happened that the German generals have had early information on secret movements undertaken un-dertaken bv the allies, that the war office has ordered the poTiee to begin new and thorough search for German spies who are believed to be operating in France. Several trains of wounded are arriving arriv-ing in Paris each day, and private residences res-idences are being thrown open to receive re-ceive the victims of the firing line who are too seriously hurt to be sent further south in order to relieve the strain on the capital. |
