The forcing out of Mrs. Mae Bramwel from Die position of deputy city recorder by Mayor Fell after, she had failed to comply with the request ior her resignation, roused a tempest in a teapot at the meeting of the city com- . mlssioners this morning. Mavor Fell and I Commissioner of Safety T. S. Browning : had a wordy clash, each charging that the j department of the other needed invest!- gation. Miss Edna J. Hadiield was ap- j , pointed to succeed Mrs. B rani well by a vote of two to one. Browning voted against it. "It looks to me as though tills act ion is taken to bolster up the recorder's proposition without warrant," said Commissioner Com-missioner Browning. "One of the main principles of the commission form of government gov-ernment is to maintain competent officers, offi-cers, hut in this instance it seems to me that competency is being excluded and incompetency maintained. If t here are to be any changes ,in the recorder's office of-fice I think there should he a complete investigation and someone other than Mrs. Bra m well ousted." Mayor Fell explained his position after the meeting by stating that there was friction in the recorder's office and tiiat Mrs. Bramwell had willfully neglected her work because of a feeling of resentment against her superior in office. |
