Tho ontiro cost of tho edifice is in tho neighborhood of f?72,000, of which until yesterday all but $l,u00 had been tiubficribed. Bowerman, pastor of the church, held a conference with the American Bnptist Home Missionary society so-ciety in New York for tho purpose, ol interesting tho socioty in contributing to the fund. An agreement was reached wheroby tho society consented to appropriate appro-priate i'SOOO if tho church would pledge $1-,500. This proposal resulted in tho plau to solicit tho tfunds yesterday conceived con-ceived by the Rev. Mr. Bowerman. The funds wore given through a unique plan. Eighteen hundred small blocks of wood were placed 011 tho platform plat-form at the church and each was valued val-ued at $10. As the blocks singly or m numbers were pledged they were ro-movod ro-movod from the platform until JoOO, including the (500 taken by tho J-lfi Missionary society, wcro removed. U is proposed to aell tho remaining 300 blocks at an early date. Though the total cost of tho building and lot is estimated at $72,000, it is probable that the amount will reach $85,000 beforo tho edifice ifi completely fnmishcd and fitted with heating and lighting appliances. |
