Knebleau Commits Com-mits Suicide at Home on Twelfth West. Christian G. Knebleau, a laborer, 53 years of age, was found dead yesterday, hanging by tho neck from a bedroom transom bar in his home, 719 North Twelfth West street. From the bent position of the knees and the height, at which the body wan suspended It was evident thai the man had lifted his feet from tho floor and held them up In order to swing clear, Tho condition of the body was such that death must havo occurred several days ago. Knebleau was last seen alive ono week ago yesterday, the day after ',10 drovo his wife and little daughter from the house. According to his wife, he was a heavv drinker and was In a fury of Intoxication when he drovo them away. Tho woman and child had not been near the place since that time and learned of the suicide last night after the body had been cut down by tho police and removed re-moved to tho undertaking room3 of Joseph Jo-seph William Taylor. The discovery of the body was made by Freddie Kane, the 8-year-old son of Mrs. Fred Kane, neighbor of the Knebleaus. Mrs. Kane went to the Knebleau home to ask If she mleht have a bucket of city wator because her mother, who waa visiting visit-ing her. did not like the artesian water with which the Kane home was provided. No one answered her knock. It was then that her little son peered through the window nnd saw the body f the man hanging in the bedroom doorway. Mrs. Kane went immediately to the residence of S. A. Earnshaw, 803 Colorado avenue, and from there word was telephoned to the police, shortly after 4 o'clock yesterday yes-terday afternoon- Chauffeur George Moore and Patrolman F. B. Tripp responded to the call and found the body hanging to the transom bar by a short rope. The suicide had broken the glass of the transom to enable en-able him to put the rope over the bar. In addition to his wife and child, Knebleau Kneb-leau Is survived by a brother, August Knebleau, llvln in Waterloo, this city. Mrs. Knebleau received the news last night of the finding of her husband's deud body with but little show of emotion. She was found at a house In the rear of 427 West Third North street, where she and her little daughter, Mary Irene, :iad secured rooms and were hiding from Knebleau. In speaking of the affair, Mrs. Knebleau said to a reporter for The Tribune: T saw my husband last a week ago Wednesday afternoon. The same morning lie had driven mo and my little girl from the house nnd T went back and talked to him while ho was standing In the yard. I got one of tho neighbors to get the clothing of myself and my little daughter from t'.io house while he was out and 'last Sunday we came hero. We had' arranged ar-ranged for no one to tell him where we were staying and so things promised prom-ised to be a little better. He had been of 110 help to me for some time past In earning a living, as ail he earned was spent for drink. I earn a living for myself and the little girl by doing domestic work for various families. It Is too bad. btit no worse than things havo been for some time. We lost our home through his drinking. drink-ing. Mrs Knebleau said that her husband was a native of Denmark, that Cio came to America about thirty years ago and that .lie came here from California, She was married to him here eleven vears ago. |
