Show EDITOR RIDICULES HERALD EDITORIAL Mark Sullivan, of Collier's Weekly, Oornments on Recent Praise of Sraoot Senatorial Career. Fulsome praise of 8enator Bmoot which appears almost daily in tho Salt Lake Herald-Republican amuses Mark Sullivan, associate editor of Oollier's Weekly. In the curreut number of Collier's Mr. Sullivan -nnder the caption, cap-tion, "Every Statesman His Own Editor," Ed-itor," quotes at length from a recent editorial in the Herald-Eepublicau praising Smoot's senatorial career, and adds: Having read this, turn now to an official list, lilcd with the post-office post-office department at Washington, showiug tho owners of that paper in which the panegTric appeared: "Beed Smoot. Provo, Utah.; D. C. Jackling, Salt Lake City, Utah; H. F. Booth, Salt Lake City, Utah; E. H. Callister, Salt Lake Citv, Utah; E. M. Allison, Salt Lake City, Utah: E. E. Jenkins, Salt Lake City, Utah: James n. Anderson, Ander-son, Salt Lake Citv, Utah; George Sutherland, Salt Lake City, Utah." Do tlie people of Salt Lake City know about the proprietorship of their local statesmen in the Herald-Republican? Hardly, for, if the' knew, its laudation of its political po-litical owners would seem as humorous hu-morous to them as it must to the rest of the country. As to the sense of humor of a senator who would hire a man to write this sort of thing about him there can be no question. |
