Hyde of 2.'I0 Xorth Third linst street will celebrate her one-hundredth birthday anniversary an-niversary on Thursday next. Her relatives rela-tives plan to- make of It a. great occasion and to that end will liavo open house during the afternoon of that dav, and everybody Is Invited to visit the residence and shako hands with tho "oldest Inhabitant." In-habitant." Mrs, Hydo Is an Interesting character. She Is as bright mentally as tho .ordinary person of half her age, and In addition has u wonderful memory. She rocalls without tho slightest difficulty or hesitation the Incidents of seventy years ago -when she was in Nauvoo, 111., and also the striking events In the early history his-tory of Utah. When Tho Tribune representative vls-llcd vls-llcd her today she told of some of her experiences, remarking that while she had seen much trouble and sorrow In her time, she had resolved never to fret, and to that fact she attributes her advanced age. She Is devoted to poetry and gave as her favorite poem the one commencing commenc-ing "Laugh and tho world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone." She speaks distinctly, hears well, sleeps like a child and has a hearty appetite. Her sight began failing last spring and now she can sec but little. Elizabeth Howe Bullcrd Hydo was born In Holllston, Middlesex county, Massachusetts, Massachu-setts, on October 2. 1813, being the daughter of Joel and Lucretla M. Bullerd. In IS 12 Mrs. Hyde was married to William Wil-liam Hyde, a member of the Mormon battalion, and one of the founders of the town of Hyde Park In this county. They camo to Utah In 1S40. and for eleven years lived In Utah county, coming to Cache county in tho year 1800. Thoy were among the flrat settlers of the town of Hyde Park, and Mrs. Hyde resided there until after the death of her husband. hus-band. A few years ago sho took up her residence with her daughter. Mrs. Jane Molcn Pitkin, and they now reside on North Third .East street. Mrs. Hydo is tho mother of four children, chil-dren, throe daughters and one son. AH of thorn reside In Logan. Thoy arc: Mrs, Jano Molen, Bishop William Hyde. Mrs Mary T,. Woolf and Mrs. Ellen M. Woolf. Mrs. Hyde's husband died in Hydo Park nearly forty years ago. |
