The Progressive party of Uintah county has nominated a full ticket with the exception of county superintendent of schools mid there seems to be a desire to leave that office out of politics. There is an' effort being made now for all parties to get together on some on person. Tho recent law enacted by the state legislature, requiring the county superintendent super-intendent to hold a life grammar grade stato certilicate, limits tho number of cll-glbles cll-glbles in this county to three N. G. Sowards, Republican, present Incumbent; Miss Isabel! De Molsy, daughter of Charles De Molsy, register of the United States land office, and Miss Sarah Odeklrk. George A.'SIaugh, chairman of tho convention, con-vention, in his "keynote" speech declared the Progressives a bunch of disappointed humans, In that tho Taft administration has not lived up to Its promises. Joe Murray was made secretary of the convention and W. 8. Henderson was appointed ap-pointed secrotary of tho count;- central committee. . The convention was composed of former Republicans, Socialists, and a few Democrats, Demo-crats, but not enough of the latter to cut much figure In tho general result. Out of 105 delegates present there wore not more than a half dozen Democrats. The surprise of th"e convention was the nomination nomi-nation of Richard Pope for sheriff. Ho Is tho present incumbent and a Democrat. Demo-crat. Immediately after the convention the correspondent of Tho Trlbuno asked Mr. Pope how he stood on tho proposition. proposi-tion. His reply wa3 that when the leaders lead-ers of the Progressives asked him If ho would accept the nomination, he told them he would not. He Informs Tho Tribune that he expects to go right ahead into tho Democratic convention the same as If the nomination had never been mado and that If the Democrats want to kick him out bocauso of- the Progressive nomination they will Just have to kick. The rest. of the ticket Is as follows Legislature, A. S. Richardson, bishop of Jensen; county commissioner (four-year (four-year term). A. A. Hatch; county commissioner com-missioner (two-year term), O. D. Ailen; county clerk, W. S. Henderson; county recorder, Mrs, Mabel Hacking; county treasurer, Lester Bingham; county surveyor, sur-veyor, J, Winter Smith; counts' attorney, Wallace Calder. Mr. Calder has always been a standpat Republican and Is one yet -so far as can be learned. It is intimated in-timated that he will also bo nominated for the same office by the Republican convention next week. Ills only opponent was L. N. Meredith, a former ardent Socialist. |
