Show LOOFBOUROW DENIES HABEAS CORPUS WRIT 1-ln.beas corpus proceedings to secure I ho release of H. .1. Turner, county surveyor sur-veyor of Carbon county, under arrest at Price on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses, railed In the Third district court yesterday afternoon. Tho hearing was held bofore Judge 1'". C. l-ioofbourow on a writ Issued by the supreme court. Counsel for Turner sought his release from custody on tho ground that tho facts alleged in tho complaint com-plaint did not constitute a public offense-Judge offense-Judge Toofbourow held that whilo the complaint was Imperfectly drawn, ihe grounds of tho chargo wore fully established estab-lished Riid ho denied tho writ. Turner is accused of putting county employees to work on his own private premises aud charging tho cost to the payrolls of his office. Stanloy Price appeared for Turner and S R. Thurmuu opposed the writ on behalf of Sheriff T. F. lCclter of Carbon county, against Whom It was directed. |
