Haines, governor-elect of 'Idaho, has been a resl-dent resl-dent of this state for twenty years, during dur-ing which period he has been closely associated with the growth of Boise and southern Idaho. ll0 was mayor of Boise ono term, but has held no other political office. In 1907 Mr. Haines was elected mayor of Bolso and was chief executive of the city for two years. He was defeated at thi.- next election by J. T. Pence, a Democrat, Dem-ocrat, but following ZVIr. Pence's term Mr. Haines was tendered Ihp nomination by the city convention for a second term, and on the ovo of the convention refused to take it owing to pressure brought to bear upon him by his business associates. July 30, 1012, Mr. HalneB was nominated nom-inated Republican candidate for governor, gover-nor, after a four-cornered race of unusual un-usual Interest in Idaho politics. November Novem-ber C he was elected governor over James II. Hawley, Democrat and present chief executive of this slate. He made his campaign on a business administration plank and will bo Inaugurated governor with tho opening of the new year. |
