Advent of Frost King Brings! Pleasure to Hearts That Beat High. YOU can please all of the people part of -the time and some of the people all of the time, but you can't plcaso all of the people all of the time; with duo apology to Abraham Lincoln. This applies to everything every-thing In general, but to the weather In particular. There were some who were dissatisfied with the beautiful weather of a week ago and wanted snow; now there are others complaining about the snow and some of them aro preparing to hie to warmer climes. But not so with the "kiddies." A week ago they wore out hatless and coatless playlnp: football and other autumn games with never a kick. Now, to pro'e that they can readily adapt themselves to any climatic condition, footballs have been laid away, skates, coasters and hockcv clubs have been dragced forth and the winter sports hold full sway. Nearly every sidewalk outside of the downtown district has TDoen appropriated by the youthful coasters and skaters and the pedestrians are kept busy dodging this way and that to avoid a collision. The walks havo been beaten as smooth as glass and fortunate aro those who pick their way homeward without a fall. But the long hills, especially down Main and State streets from Capitol hill, are the favorites of tho coasters, The skaters are not so particular, thouch Liberty nark and the Ice rlhks are well patronized. A glance at the merry crowds shows that skating and coasting are not monopolized monop-olized by members of the masculine gender, gen-der, though they have Hie game of hockey hock-ey all to theniHelvep. While the girls are in tho minority there are many of them on sleds and skates. Testcrdav was ideal for the cnloyment of the winter sports and the ponds at Liberty park were crowded, especially In the afternoon. The temperature was "just low enough to maki the skaters keen moving, and to fill the youngsters with-mischief. with-mischief. They took special " dollcht in Initiating the amateur and upsetting the unwarv. The majority of their pmnkc were taken pood naturedlv and the first real winter weather was pronerlv christened chris-tened by lovers of winter sports. |
