Show AFTER BOOK COMPANIES. Cache County School Is Inve3llaatln,g Alleged Breaches of Contracta. Special to Tho Tribune. LOGAN, Dec. 21. At tho rogular meeting meet-ing of the county board of education, held hero yesterday, A. M. Bvicharjan of Salt Lake appeared and made an exhaustive ex-haustive explanation of matters pertaining pertain-ing to tle purchase and exchange, of textbooks text-books used In tho schools. Ho declared that through a lack of information which Eome people think should havo been dispensed dis-pensed by tlio slate, educational authorities, authori-ties, the schoo boards of the various counties in tho state have be.cn robbed of many thousands of dollars. Ho maintained main-tained that these school boards havo been compelled to pay practically tho retail price for their books, that the book companies com-panies have not placed an' "exchange value on a great many of tho old books which the schools havo on their lianda; aud that where exchanges have been made tho book companies have mulcted tho schools of the freight both ways, when their contract provides that they shall pay the freight. All this has cost the state many thousands of dollars, ho says and he had a mass of documentary evidence evi-dence bearing out his assertions. The board was much impressed with his tall: and at once began an investigation investi-gation which disclosed tho met that Cache county achool district has on hand a. lot of books that under the contract entered Into by the state and tho book companies, should have been exchanged, but tho exchange Hats sent out by the companies did not contain any mention of them. The board ordered thepc book boxed and thf? companies notified that thoy must live up to tholr contract nnd exchange them. Mr. Buchanan wan thanked for his Information. |
