Thero was nothing noth-ing to tonight's boxing bout but Leo Kelly. The fight belonged to the St. Louis boy from the first, Jack Clifford making a near-stand-off only In the third ro.l,nd' Tn lIle fourth round Clifford was all but out when the hell saved him. In the seventh he was knocked out with a left over the heart. The winner showed class and speed, whereas Clifford -was slow and his work lacked steam. Harry Iewis of Denver challenged tho winner. The men weighed 13R pounds. Hardy IC Downing of Salt Lake was the referee. Canyon hall, where the bout was staged, was packed to the guards. About 250 fans came over from Salt Lake. The first preliminary was a wrestling match between Arthur Macke of Salt Lake and Peter Vasmus of Bingham. Macke undertook un-dertook to throw Vasmus within twenty minutes. He accomplished the task In fourteen minutes ten seconds. Chris Jordan Jor-dan refereed the match. Peter Sockett of Bingham challenged Macke to a finish fin-ish match for $500 a side at 105 pounds. Andy McDonald and Dan Groves of Upper Bingham boxed two rounds, and Joe Pentell of Saginaw. Mich., and Joe Lewis of Denver boxed four rounds Downing' announced that Chris Jordan and Mike Tokel would meet in a return wrestling match In Salt Lake during the first week In October. |
