Show NOTES PROGRESS IN EUIOPEISCK Dr. William C. Ebaugh of the University of Utah Home From Long Trip. After a year's leave of absence, dur-ing dur-ing which timo he has traveled through oastern United States and Europe, Dr. William C. Ebaugh, head of the dopnrt-mcnt dopnrt-mcnt of chomistry at the University of Utah, has roturned to Salt Lake. Dr. Ebaugh s trip wns taken for tho purpose of stud and to get ucw ideas which might bo used in the school of mines of tho University of Utah. During the eighteen mouths' trip, ' which was bognn immediately after school closed in 1911, Dr. Ebaugh has visited nearly all of tho noted schools of science in this country and abroad. During tho investigation lie acquired much useful information which ho hopes to put to great advautagp in his own departmont. In summing up tho trip Dr. Ebaugh .said: "I have been fortunate in seeing see-ing some of tho greatest scientific institutions insti-tutions in the world. The work being done in them is simply wonderful and tho great arioty of endeavor is startling. start-ling. Thcro was not a school visited where thcro was uot something new to learn. I have found numerous things that could bo added profitably to our engineering school and 1 hope to put into effect some of the cxcollcnt now ideas seen on the trip. "Howovor, attcr having spent more than a year in traveling I come back to tho university well satisfied with tho condition of our school and think that it stands amnnc the best of its kind." After touring the continent he investigated inves-tigated methods in London, Oxford. Windsor and Eton, Birmingham and Edinburg. Besides Mr. Ebaugh several other members of ihe nniv'ersitv faculty have, returned. President Kingsbury has been spendinc some time at'Bcrkcly and Stanford and hap returned with some useful information, Miss Lucy Van Cott, dean of the women, is home from a trip to tho northwest. Miss Bnbcock, professor of elocution, has spent the summer iu New York and Philadelphia, whore she has been doing some work-in work-in the interest of ''U" dramatics. Dr. Stewart, hoal of the Normal school, is back from his ranch on tho upper Weber. We-ber. Mr. McKnight. head of the training train-ing school, who has spent the sunfnier on the coast, rcturnod last week. |
