Show SEUOH 1H IS WljQTIf CITY Wyoming Lawmaker Interestingly Inter-estingly Discusses Tariff, Present and Future. "Jf returned to power next year tho Democratic party will again revise the tariff with a view to reducing It as nearly near-ly as possible to a free trado basis." This .was the declaration of United Slates Senator Francis E. Warren of Wyoming, who is in Salt Lake, a guest nt the Hotol Utah. Senator Warren and Mrs. Warren aril ar-il ved In the city from Cheyenne yesterday yester-day and plan to spend a few days here before roturnlng to Washington, where Senator Warren will take part In the discussion of tho currency bill, now before be-fore the United States senate. Senator Warren believes tho Democratic Demo-cratic administration is losing: favor since tho passage of the tariff act. Ho does not bellovo tho currency bill will become be-come a law during tho present extra session ses-sion of congress. He is of the opinion that tho Republicans will make gains at the next congressional election and that In 1916 a Republican president and a Republican congress will bo chosen. He said: The Issuos on which the next election elec-tion will be fought will depend somewhat some-what on circumstances that mny aris.o in the meantime. My opinion is, however, that tho issue ns between protection and free trade will again come before the public. Wo cannot hope to win the senate next year, but wc will undoubtedly make gains In tho house. In 1010 wc will complete tho victory with the election of a Republican president and a Republican congress in both branches. The present tariff bill Is as near a free trade bill as the Democrats dared to pass at tho present time. It retains, re-tains, however, some protective features. fea-tures. The Democratic party Is a free trade party and I believe that In the event the Democrats are returned to power they will amend the present tariff to bring It as nearly as possible to free trade. Wyoming, like other western states, suffers greatly by the Democratic tariff act. Our sheep industry is a great sufferer. Ilowevcr, the price of wool had gone down previously in anticipation of free wool and our woolgrowers are trying to mako the best of a. bad situation and live In the hope of better times. The trouble the president is experiencing ex-periencing in trying to get his currency cur-rency bill through the senate is Indicative In-dicative of a loss of power on the part of th executive and things are not going as well for the administration adminis-tration as they were a few months ago. In my opinion, tho president will not succeed In gelling his bill through congress before the winter session. Tho administration is In serious trouble over the Mexican situation, which Is very bad. Of course, ns Americans we must all stand with tho American government throughout this trouble. The administration la at sixes find sevens over it and It is evident that someono has bungled. Ono cannot predict what may happen next. I hope that Intervention will TPriOVo "ocesKary. if u comes al nih "otpellevo that It will come until after the next election.
