Show SEE CHANGE FOR GUMMY Commercial Club Committeemen Committee-men Inspect Silica Deposits Near Draper. BRICK AND SANDSTONE PLANT IS ALSO NEEDED Favorable Report Is Returned Concerning Offer Made by S. R. Neel. ' i Tho Commercial club commlttcii on manufactories met Thursday noon to hear the report, of the sub-commlltee appointed last month to go Into ihc merits of establishing estab-lishing a silica sandstone brick plant near Drapor as proposed by S. R. Neel and associates. The committeemen, II. J. Wallace. Charles F. Porter and T. W. Whltcly, submitted a report ns follows, which was accepted by the committee: "The undersigned, your sub-committee, to whom was referred the application of Samuel R. Neel and associates, for tho indorsement of tho Commercial club of their proposed new industry for the manufacture man-ufacture of silica sand lime brick and kindred products, beg leave to report as follows: "On Thursday. March 23, 1011, all the members of your sub-commlttcc with Mr Noel" and some of his associates visited the deposits of silica and fire clay near Draper. We wore shown two faces of silica opened up In the mountain at a considerable distance from each other, and Indicating practically unlimited Quantities Quan-tities of fine silica sand, averaging, wo are told, over 00 per cent pure, which sand, we are informed, is the proper material ma-terial for making silica sand llmo brick and can also bo used for tho manufacture manufac-ture of glass and glassware. "Wo were also shown and taken Into a tunnel which had been driven to open up a deposit of plastic fire clay that can bo used for tho manufacture of fire brick and also for the manufacture of terra cotta facings, ornamentation for buildings, etc. This deposit of fire clay Is apparently a very large one. "Your committee was very much Impressed Im-pressed with the sand and fire clay deposits de-posits shown us, which are located within with-in a short distance from tho line of the Salt Lake Route, and it is possible to erect the works for the manufacture of brick, etc., either near tho deposits or close to tho main line of the railway. "The raw materials, silica and fire clay, exist on the property of Mr. Noel and his associates in quantities that would justify the erection of such a plant as Mr. Neel proposes, and it would seem that the proposition merits encouragement, en-couragement, provided the necessary market for silica sand lime brick exists. That, however, Is a subject that your committeo did not go Into, as it is one that the individual Investor must decide for himself. "To the minds of your committee, however, how-ever, the establishment of works for the manufacture of silica sand lime brick would be a side issue, as we think the deposits of silica and fire clay shown us, merit the establishment of works to produce pro-duce glass and terra cotta products. "So far as clay brick is concerned, your committee Is informed that the plants in existence in the vicinity of Salt Lake City have more than sufficient capacity to supply sup-ply the expected demand for a good many years to come. As to tho capitalization of the proposed corporation, Mr. Neel lias not matured his plaii3 and the matter was not gone Into by this committee." |
