Show NEW ORE RAILWAY FOR OHES Wasatch Company Formed, With Capital of $100,000, to Build Line. J. G. JAC0BS NEARLY READY TO BEGIN CONSTRUCTION Slimmer Resort and Other Adjacent Ad-jacent Towns Sure to Reap Great Benefit. The formation of tho Wasatch 3?ail-rond 3?ail-rond conipnn'-, whoso articles of incorporation incor-poration will ho filed any day now, assures the construction of the railroad liuo from Saud Pit to Wasatch, a project pro-ject that has been tiudcr consideration by J, G. Jacobs, the well-known railroad rail-road builder for some time past. The Wasatch company will bo capitalized for $100,000 and will be tho lessee of the Alfcn branch of the Denver & Bio Grande 'road. This lease was agreed upon and prepared pre-pared in 190S, between the Rio Grande and Mr. Jacobs, with tho understanding understand-ing that when there was traffic sufficient suffi-cient to justify the rehabilitation and operation of tho lino the lease was to be executed. The lease has been signed by all parties to the contract, nnd if Jacobs can secure tho ties on schedule time ho will begin construction work by May 20. Old-timers will recall that there was at ono time a railroad to Wasatch, down which was brought many millions of dollaits worth of Altn ore. Much of the original grade is still preserved, and this will not need a great deal of dressing to prepare it for the new ties and rails. The rails are now on tho ground and the line should bo ready for .business within thirty days after work starts. Tho line from Midvale to what is known as Sand Pit is already done and in operation, this being for four miles, and from Sand Pit to Wasatch Wa-satch it is six miles, so the line under lease will be ten miles in length. Ore Bins at Wasatch. At Wasatch, the beautiful little summer, sum-mer, resort which guards the entrance to the Littlo Cottonwood mining district, dis-trict, oro bins will be constructed into which the ore shippers of Alta will dump their mine products, thence load-inc; load-inc; the same into tho railroad cars. This will cut off sevoral expensive- miles of wagon hauling for down-coming ore tonnages and for in-going mine supplies of all sorts. The improved physical conditions of tho Alta properties and tho gigantic morgcr in which strong eastern capital is interested, guarantee guaran-tee good business for tho new line. It is not altogollicr to the mines, however, how-ever, that the Wasatch road will look for business. Wasatch itself with its heavy summer passenger and general supply business will afford considerable patronage. It is understood that the Wasatch interests will add a large number num-ber of new cottages to those already surrounding tho $5000 summer hotel At Wasatch also aro the great granite quarries from which the stono for tho Mormon temple was 'taken. With extensive ex-tensive building operations now assured for Salt Lake City this granite will be mined on a scale never attempted before. be-fore. Thore are now from 200 to 300 tons of sand beiug shipped from Sand Pit dnily and there are at least 400 tons of business now actually in sight for the new line. Ideal Connections. At Sandy the Wasatch road will connect con-nect with the Denver & "Rio Grande, Oregon Short Line and the suburban system of tho Utah Light & Railway company, affording ideal facilities for passengers reaching tho Tesort at tho mouth of the canyon. The road doubt-Continued doubt-Continued on Page Two. II 01 H ROAD WILL BEGIN AT OIK J. G. Jacobs and Associates Expect Ex-pect lo Commence Construction Construc-tion This Month. Continued From Page One. less -will stimulate interest and activ-hy activ-hy in tho mines of Alta, for transportation transporta-tion has been one of the drawbacks of the camp during recent years. Mr. Jacobs, who is financing this new road is known as the "Hard times railroad builder of Utah." He financed and constructed con-structed the line to the Mcrcur mining camp in 1904, following one of the greatest panics in the history of the country. In doing that ho gave employment employ-ment to hundreds of men when they needed it. The Mercur road also made possible the easy accumulation of tho millions of dollars in dividends paid by tho mines there. The assurance that tho "Wasatch road will be constructed immediately will bo good news for the mine owners and the many stockholders in Little Cottonwood Cot-tonwood district. |
