Show PATHFINDER PROVES TO BE SPLENDID MACHINE With sealed bonnet, the Chalmers "Thirty," which acted as pathfinder In the last Glidden tour and later was sent over tho same course as a contestant, has Just completed a three-day run over the sand hills of northern Ohio. The car. driven by E. B. Finch of Cleveland. Cleve-land. came through perfect and at the end of the run the motor was running as smoothly as ever. Tho seals were Unbroken. The pathfinder was used by M. M. Maxwell, Max-well, secretary of tho Cleveland Automobile Auto-mobile clubr who acted as official starter and night checker. As a result of carrying carry-ing Mr. Maxwell, the car was compelled to leave, the controls last and arrive at tho night control among the first. For this reason Finch did not spare the car, but drove hard at all times. Since Joe Gardham turned the car In at the Detroit factory after twice driving driv-ing It over the gruelling Gliddon course, no alteration swere made. Tho car Ie now being exhibited at the Cleveland agenoy of the Chalmers company and will probably be entered In other contests of a similar nature, Tho event In which tho car so successfully suc-cessfully performed was the three-day reliability re-liability run held under the auspices of the Cleveland News and the Cleveland Automobllo club. The courso included Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo, and with the exception of tho last day the run. was made through deep sand and over steep hills. Tho last day a heavy rain made erstwhile good roads treacherous and slippery. |
