Ida., next Thursday an Inloresttlng cxporlincnt in the disposal of public lands In a Carey act project will bo tried. Approximately 10.000 acres of land are to bo opened for entry on that day and tho accompanying water rights will be sold at public auction. Tho state board of Idaho has fixed a price of J-10.50 per aero on this land and water, so that tho sctllcrs will not be permitted to accept ac-cept bids for nioro than this amount. The stato board has no objection, however, how-ever, to a lower price being charged for the land and water. This sale Ib intended to clean up tho lands embraced in the project of the American Falls Canal and Power company, com-pany, which is tho oldest enterprise undertaken un-dertaken under the Carey act In the state- This land Is of different qualities, some good and somo not so good. Part of It was withheld from entry aa a reservoir res-ervoir site, and the reservoir idea has been abandoned as unnecessary. More of it was not opon to entry before because be-cause a lateral was needed beforo water could bo put on It. This latoral has been ordered dug. A part of the land is abovo tho water level of the canal, but. It Is said, water can bo raised inexpensively inexpen-sively to Irrigate these upper lovcls. Elaborate preparations are being made to entertain tho ncoplo who go to attend at-tend the sale. There will be a special train out from Pocatello and Blackfoot and a big barbecuo will greet the excursionists ex-cursionists upon the arrival of the special spe-cial train. |
