Show jVARSITY ATHLETES START SPRING WORK Students Commence Training for Field and Track; Mad-dock Mad-dock Has Good Material. All the university athletes responded to the first call for spring training Thursday Thurs-day afternoon for field and track work, and Coach Maddock was greatly pleased with tho material at hand from which to select his team. Many of the men are new at the varsity, though several of them have done good work on the high school teams of tho state. Sam 13rInton. captain of the track team this yenr. and Swapp aro really the leaders of the old men on the team who have served on the varsity teams more than two years. Tho men wero" divided Into squads fpr the different stunts. In the squad for the sprints were Brlnton. Carmlchaol, Walker, Bolnap and Monson. The distance dis-tance squad was composed of Alley, Cole. Nell Judd, Shields and Woolf, each of whom did good work for the first day out. In the weights, Swapp, Sam Ole-son Ole-son and "Count"" Chrlstensen showod good form, and although "Count" is new in track work he has made good In football and will likely make tho positions posi-tions for the shot put. For the polo vault, Erlckson, Anderson nnd Taylor will try out. while in the half and quarter-mile events Holms tend and Stone will likely make good. |
