Salt Lake City's delegation from local union No. 115 to tho International Typographical Union convention, to be held in St. Josoph, Mo., from August 0 to 15, will cstond a cordial invitation to tho printers to meet in this city next year A bunch of livo wires from the Salt Lake union will go after tho 15)10 convention con-vention hammer and tongs, and it -will bo surprising if they fail to laud it for their home town. The local delegation to the St. Joe convention includes tho following: II. W. Donnctt, chairman; Arthur E. Graham; Gra-ham; George T. Hanson, president of No. 115; A. Thompson, secretary; Burt L. White and IL H. Freeman. Tho delegation will scatter through the convention a wide-awake circular, bearing a welcome to Salt Lake City from Typographical union, No. 115; tho Ladies- Auxiliary, No. 16; the allied printing trades, the Commercial club; Employing Printers' association; Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce; Heal Estate association; associa-tion; Governor Spry, Mayor Bransford and the citizens of Salt Lake City. This circular briefly describes the numerous attractions licre, besides the sc(-ncr3- on the various railroad lines on the trip, Bunch of Spenders. One. hundred and fifty thousand dollars dol-lars is a conservative estimate of the amount, spent by the printers at their annual convention. There aro more than 1500 delegates, ex-delegates and visitors to each convention. All of these stay in the convention city at least ono week, and many remain several sev-eral weeks. That such a convention would benefit Salt Lako City, not: onlv through the wide advertising that a(-tends a(-tends such a big affair, but also in a monetary way, is shown by tho fact that, estimating tho average sfaj" at one week for each printer, with expenses from $75 to $100, there would be a total to-tal of from $100,000 to $150,000 left hero. Many of tho unions from the more distant points appropriate for tho expenses ex-penses of each delegate as high as $300. Besides the expenditures of the visitors, the local committee of entertainment and the international officers would spend about $20,000. Tn preparing the souvenir, sou-venir, which will be ono of tho finest specimens of tho printer's art ever put out in (his country, about $6000 will be expended. Entertainments alone will cost $5000. |
