OGDEN", .lulv JO The dismantling of the Crand theater by tho contractors in the emplov of the Orpheum J heatri-cal heatri-cal associatio'u. which now holds a lease of the building, has disclosed that the house has been a veritable lire trap. Tho contractors now at work on ilie buildiuf declare that the smokestack of the boiler in the ongine room imme-diatelv imme-diatelv below the parquet, was within a few inches of the woodwork with nothing to prevent a tiro being communicated com-municated from there to the contra portion por-tion of the house, cutting off practically evorv escape. In some places the insulation in-sulation has been worn lrom the electric elec-tric wires and evidence of scorched woodwork around these laces have "been found, according to those at work on the .building. This apparent evidence of gross negligence neg-ligence on the part of former managements manage-ments and the fire inspectors has been the cause for much discussion today by those who had not nlruudy become acquainted ac-quainted with the conditions at the local playhouse some time ago. |
