Show BUSINESS BETTER ON THE PiiK MARKET Saturday Is a Busy Day for Dealers on Market Row; Fresh Fruit Plentiful. Business was very pood on the local produce market Saturday, after a week oC almost nothing doing. Dealers reported re-ported a good demand for eatables in neaHy all departments. Of course, the host demand was for fresh fruit and vegetables, but meat and fish also sold reasonably well. The demand for poultry poul-try was rather light, owing to the high prico of the edible. New potatoes were plentiful Saturday, and met with an exceedingly good demand. de-mand. The vegetable retailed at ! pounds for 2o cents. Some dealers offered of-fered it an low as 5 cents a pound. New cabbage, tho California variety, also sold, very well. In the fruit line the demand was very good for raspberries, cantaloupes and bananas. Oranges arc not so good as they were, and the supply is not bo large. There was a good' supply of watermelons on the market Saturday, but there was no change in the prico of the delicacy. A new shipment of vegetables was received from (!alifornia Saturday morning, and the dealers had them on the stands in time to greet the afternoon after-noon shopper. |
