Show GREAT PROGRESS BS BONG MADE ON I FINE NEW BUILDINGS IN SALT LAKE UNIQUE VTBW OF THE BOSTON AND NEWHOUSE SKYSCRAPERS, SHOWING THAT THEY HAVE ALMOST AL-MOST REACHED COMPLETION. Practically the first move in the great changes in business locations which ure expected to take place as a result of tho erection of tho now skyscrapers by Samuel Newhouso was made recently with the announcement that tho Houston Hous-ton Investment company, ono of the oldest and largest real estato concerns in the city, would occupy the ground floor of the Boston building on its completion com-pletion some time during the early part of noxt year. The location will be one of tho finest in the city. Tho company will occupy the entire front of the building witn entrances from the street -and from the main hallway of tho building, with a clear space of 33x75 foet. Owing to the yet uncompleted coudition of the building no attempt has been made to finish the interior of the new offices or I to lay out tho plaus. but it is known j that the furnishings will be in keeping keep-ing with the splendid bui'diug in which I thej' are located. Therc'will be private 1 offices for the president and other officers of-ficers of the company and for tho directors, direc-tors, and vaults and other accessories will bo among the features. The finish will probably be of mahogany, ufter the style of the gonoral furnishing in the rest of the building, and no ox- pense will be spared to make the placo as attractive as possible and representative representa-tive of tho growing metronplis. In tho meantime progress on tho two new buildings is going forward as rapidly rap-idly as possible. On the great Boston building ISO workmen are at work putting put-ting the finishing touchos on the roof and arranging tho many details connected con-nected with the final work on tho structure. struc-ture. In the Newhouse building the partitions par-titions are boing put into place and it is expected that the building will bo rcadv for occupancy shortly after tho i ooening of thc new year. Offices for ' Mr. Newhouso arc being arranged on I tho olovouth story of tho Newhouso building, occupying nearly tho entire space there. This location is considered the best in the building on account of boing higher in thc air whero there is less noise of tho city and where the air is purer and it is cooler. A. look about the city 6hows that affairs on tho numerous other new I buildings are progressing favorably. Tho j great warehouse being constructed for the Salt Lake Hardwaro company is I already completed up to the second j story and the brick work has beon started for that portion of thc building, j The foundation of the new Syndicato building at the corner of First West , and Second South is practically com- ! pleted and work is started on tho super- 1 i structure. The Simon building, being ! I erected for the Paris Millinery com- I 1 pany on West Tomplo, between First ' I and Second South, has the wal's com- ' 1 pleted and much of tho exterior finish I is being nut into place. Just north of I this building the Jennings Worthingron I building has begun to appear above the ' I board fence and to show something of what the place will look like when tho : structures afe completed. I J At the corner of Fourth South and State streets the foundation of tho new Dnley building is completed and work will now bo pushed on the upper por- , lion of tho structure. This building is the farthest south of any of the new ' structures and will strengthen thc tend- 1 ency of business concerns to move away 1 from the more congested portions of tho city to the district farther south. Thc j foundation of the new Commercial club ' building at the corner of Exchango Placo and Cactus street is being completed com-pleted at a rapid rale. The contract tor thc oroction of the remainder of the structure has not yet been lot, but will be undertaken at tho earliest possible moment as soon as the board of governors govern-ors of the club can act in tho matter. Farther up Main street the new Callaway, Calla-way, lloock & Francis building is prac- ticallj' .ready tor the outside liuish. The walls aro up, the floors and roof in place and from this time work will progress rapidly. There is also considerable activity ac-tivity about the McCornick-Mclutyre buildings and tho indications arc tli: t operations there will proceed rapidly as soon as the preliminary steps connected with the preparation of the foundation can be completed. Perhaps the featuro of tho week has been the completion of thc work of asphalting as-phalting First South street from Second Sec-ond East to Thirteenth East, a distance dist-ance of nearly two miles. This is ono or thc largest contracts ever completed i by the citv and makes a splendid ap-1 ap-1 ncarance. Tho removal of thc poles from . Main street was started during the past 1 week also and thc street has been entirely en-tirely cleared of these obstructions from 1 South Temple to First South. Somo : idea of what the appearance of this 1 handsome streot will bo after the obstructions ob-structions have been taken away for the entire length of .ho thoroughfare may be gainod from tho appearance of that portion of tho street now. Excellent Ex-cellent progress has also been mado behveon First aud Second South and on somo of tho side streets. Second South is practically clear, entirely so cast of Second East and thc poles for tho now systom are alrcadj- in placo for the rest of the distance dis-tance showing that the removal of the old wooden poles is only a question of time. The new subway for tho underground under-ground wire system is nlso being put into place along "West Temple and First and Srcond South. During the past week. Third South strcot was closed to traffic by the erection erec-tion of a fonce preparatory to starting of work ou a large scale for the erection of the new Denver & Hio Grande depot. Thc framowork of thc new Oregon Short L;ne depot is already in placo and can be seen for a long d'stance nbovo the roofs of tho lower structures in the viciuity. Thus everywhere about thc business soclion of the citv there is a great stir 1 and rush of building activity. The total amount for building permits has already exceeded thc entire amount of last year bv about one million dollars and tho ind'eations aro that thc total increase will be closo to 100 per cent lor thc entire year. |
