Show WAILS FROM THE LAST DITOH. Tho Dervish dance now being performed per-formed by tho church political crowd, and tho frantic yells accompanying it, show tho desperation in which tho devotees of tho Republican church find thoir case. Tho astonishing and idiotic letter and affidavit of Sol Kimball aa to what ho heard some one say who is now dead, all being such absolute trash and rubbish, is a fair sample of , tho sort of thing that tho church politicians poli-ticians consider worth while to inflict upon an intelligent public. But tho matter is so absolutory puerile that it must bo sickening to the intelligent friends of tho church cause to sco such stuff prominently paraded as of real merit or consequence. 1 Tho Dcserot Nows, the church organ, I has been frantically trying for somo ! time past, through irrelevant and per- ' verted boxed extracts from The Tribuno, Trib-uno, and through silly and dishonest presentations as suggestions for tho American platform, to switch the issuo upon grounds that will givo tho church crowd somo positive basis upon which to stand. All along their fight has been, and in fact is, a defensive onc against tho proved charges of church interference in and domination of civil and political affairs and of tho treasonable treason-able utterances of tho "inspired" church leaders for many years past, right down to tho present. In tho face of tho utterances of those church lead- l crs, continued in spirit, and often in actual sentiments and words, right along down until now, tho showing has been something absolutely impossible to overcome. Tho church claim of control in temporal affairs is proclaimed just as radically and as comprehensively by the present president of the church as it ever was by Brigham Young or any other president of tho church. And in tho faco of tho pretensions of tho leaders lead-ers in this matter, it is absolutely idle to deny tho tomporal government by tho hierarchy. And when these temporal tem-poral and political assumptions of the j priesthood aro backed by tho olect.iou returns which show tho priestly interference inter-ference and dominance, then there is really nothing more to be said. The Smoot "Mouth" keeps up its silly thumping of tomtoms .and beating of tin cans trying to create a distrac tion from tho main issuo and seeking to find something damaging against the American party. Every timo, however, . it thinks il has found something the tables aro turned, aud it is plainly seen that the thing which it charges against tho Americans is precisely what its own dirty little elique and ring has been guilty of. This was especially noteworthy note-worthy in the matter of the "Mouth's" charge that it was the Americans that were trying to deprive Mr. Taft of Republican Re-publican votes to which ho is entitled in this State. It was easily shown, however, that it was tho Smoot crowd that is doing this, because of their threats to withdraw tho Republican electors from tho American ticket. This damaging Smoot threat against Taft, contrasted with the faithful act of tho American. Republicans in getting the petition made necessary by the law to put the Republican electors at tho head of the American ticket, so that American Ameri-can Republicans could easily and comfortably com-fortably vote a straight ballot, including includ-ing Mr. Taft, proves tho good faith of the American Republicans and tho bad faith. of tho -Smootites.- And so it goes all along the line; whenever the opposition undertakes to spring anything, the effect reacts upon themselves, and thoy lose in public confidence con-fidence and support:. All the clatter and banging that they keep up now, therefore, is simply an ovidenco of the desperation of the church Crowd in their hopeless fright. They have given up all idea of success, and are simply making, what noiso.they can from ."the last ditch. "' ' |
