The troublo iu tho Utah National bank almost . a year ago canio to the surface on Friday when an action upon a promissory note, given by Joseph Nelson, Nel-son, former cashier of tho bank, for $13,250 was begun in the Ihird district court. It will bo remembered that in January Janu-ary last there was a shortage discovered iu the Utah National bank which amounlod to $100,250. At this time the bank had, in undivided profits, the sum of $-13,250. This was transfered to tho general fund to holp make good. President McCornick put up $50,000 undtCashier Nelson $13,250. This rnado. gool the shortage. The matter was to como up finally before a meeting of tho board of directors direc-tors when thoy convened, but for some roason or other it never did come up. The note of Cashier Nelson was of date JAnuary 22 last. It wa3 made payable thirty days after demand was made for payment, with interest at the rate of G per cent per annum. It is alleged in the complaint that payment was demanded September 11 and iuterest thereon is demanded at the rate of 10 per cent per annum. |
