Show AN ORDINANCE fire limits in provo city SECTION 1 be it ordain fd ly the city council city that the following are hereby established as the fire limits of provo city viz all of blocks 21 and 28 plat B 66 and 67 plat A and the north halfon blocks and south liala of blocks 68 69 70 aud 71 plat A provo city survey of building lots and within said limits it shall be unlawful to erect or without the written consent and approval of the inspector of build engg to repair any building or shed the outer walls of which are in whole or in part constructed of wood except BO much as may be necessary for door and window frames cornice doors sash and shutters and the roofs of all buildings hereafter erected or newly roofed within said limits shall be covered with metal or other incombustible material each building shall be separated from all other buildings by a partition wall of brick adobe or rock not less alian nine inches thick if between one story buildings and one foot thick between buildings of more than one story from the foundation to the roof from front to rear and extending through and above the roof not less than eighteen inches so as to entirely separate any communication of wood between such buildings and any other in all buildings where fire is kept there shall be flues or chimneys built of rock brick or adobe and all stove pipes shall be conducted into flues or chimneys and if they pass through wooden partitions or floors they must be protected from the bamo by metal ventilated thimbles 3 and in no cage shall a above pipe ba allowed to pass through thereof or out of the side of any building SEE 2 the erection of such buildings as are mentioned in section 1 upon any half or whole block not included within the aforesaid limits may be prohibited upon application to the city council in writing signed by the owners of the greater part of the real prop arty in said half or whole block such application shall be accompanied by a plat of the half or whole block designating the property of each owner by bis name written on the plat representing his property and the city council being satisfied that the applicants are the owners of the greater part of said property may extend the fire limits over said half or whole block SEC 3 no person shall within said fire limits keep hay or straw or other combustible material in stack or pile without having the same enclosed so as to protect it from flying sparks of fire and no owner or occupant of a livery or other stable or any other person shall use therein or in any other place containing hay straw or other combustible matters any lighted candle or other movable light except when tho same be kept safely enclosed in a lantern or other suitable covering to protect the same sac 4 it shall be unlawful within aard fire limits to smoke meat boil pitch tar rosin turpentine var niah or other combustible material in any room or place except the same be fireproof fire proof SEC 5 whoever shall in person or by another erect any building within said fire limits in violation of any provision of this chapter shall be liable to a fine nt to exceed one hundred bollara do llara and the further sum of dol lara for every day that the building is permitted to stand after twenty days notice any person who ahall become the owner of such building actor the same shall have beon so built and who shall omit neglect or refuse to remove the same within twenty days after notice shall be liable to pay the same penalties and the of any other provision of this cli apter not herein provided for shall that no person following the employment 0 hackman cabman omnibus driver coach driver or driver of any passenger vehicle or soliciting patronage for any such vehicle shall while actually engaged in his employment as such at any railroad depot leave his hack omnibus coach express wagon or other vehicle but shall remain within six feet of said coach hack cab omnibus express wagon or other vehicle except it bo to secure when requested the baggage of his passengers SEC 2 no person following the employment of fruit peddler hackman omnibus driver porter or driver of any passenger vehicle shall anter into or apoi any railroad ear depot platform or upon any passage or landing leading thereto while actually engaged in his employment as such provided that nothing herein shall prevent any person from entering in or upon any railroad car depot platform or upon any passage leading thereto for the purpose of procuring the baggage of any passenger after having first obtained and exhibited to the person in charge cf such railroad car depot platform or passage the check or checks of such passenger for his baggage SEC 3 no runner hackman omnibus driver porter or driver of any pass vehicle or other public conveyance shall at any time whon engaged in his employment obstruct any street or sidewalk make any unusual noise or disturbance unnecessarily snap or flourish his whip use any indecent profane or obscene language or be guilty of boisterous or loud talking orderly conduct or nse ns e any language or be guilty of any conduct calculated to disturb tho public peace or good order of the city or harass vex annoy or disturb any there being or passing SEC 4 all public passenger vehicles licensed under the ordinances city shall be numbered with plain figures painted thereon not less than one and one half inches in length which shall always be kept conspicuously in view said number shall be famished by the city recorder at the time of issuing the license SEC 6 every public vehicle for the conveyance of passengers when driven or used in tha nighttime night time shall have fixed upon some conspicuous part of the outside thereof two lighted lamps with plain glass sides and shall have the number of such vehicle in plain legible figures upon each of the outer sides of fraid lamps in such a manner that the same may be distinctly seen and every such vehicle which has a door or doors to the same shall have a knob or handle upon the inside of each door by which said door may be easily opened from the inside thereof SEC 6 there shall be fixed in every licensed vehicle used for the conveyance of passengers in such a manner as can bo conveniently read by any person riding therein a card with the name of the owner oi such vehicle and the number of his license written or printed thereon and for a failure so to do the owner of such vehicle shall be liable to a fine in any to exceed twenty five dol lars and upon conviction thereof shall forfeit his license said card shall be furnished by the city ro corder free of charge and any parson mutilating tearing down or otherwise destroying said card shall be fined not to exceed twenty five dollars SEC 7 every passenger shall be allowed to have conveyed upon such public vehicle without charge his ordinary baggage not to exceed one hundred and fifty pounds in voight vc ight SEC 8 any person violating any of the provisions of
