Show INSTANTLY KILLED I BV FALL DOWN SHAFT i i George Haves of Provo Meets Death in Beck Tunnel Mine. Special to The Tribune. EUREKA, Doc. 22. Shortly after 10:30 o'clock this morning, George Hayes, a "toolnlppor" at tho Beck Tunnel, fell 375 feet down tho shaft of the mine and was Instantly killed. lie fell from the cage at the 725-foot level to tho 1100-foot level. His bodv was found at the bottom of the shaft terribly mangled. How the accident occurred Is not definitely defi-nitely known, but the engineer became awaro that thoro was something wrong by a sovero Jarring of tho cable. It is thought that an armfull of tools which Hayes was carrying to tho top of the shaft for sharpening became caught in tho cage, causing it to vibrato with sufficient suf-ficient force to tlirow tho man out. Hayes was twenty-two years old, and a son of George Hayes, superintendent of the Spanish Fork Co-op. IIo Ls survived by a widow and one child. The remains will be taken to Provo for Interment. |
